From October 1st to 4th, Università Politecnica delle Marche (UNIVPM) participated in the XII International Symposium on Environmental Engineering (SIDISA 2024), held in Palermo, Italy. The conference, renowned for gathering global experts in environmental engineering, provided a valuable platform for discussing innovative solutions to pressing environmental challenges.
As part of the SEA2LAND project, UNIVPM presented an abstract titled “Fish Discards Valorisation into Low Carbon Biochar Compost Composite“. This presentation highlighted innovative methods for repurposing fish discards, a significant byproduct of the fishing industry, into biochar-based compost materials. These low-carbon biochar composites present a promising solution for reducing waste, improving soil health, and contributing to sustainable agriculture. This approach is part of SEA2LAND‘s mission to develop advanced bio-based fertilizers using fisheries waste, thus contributing to the European Union’s goals of sustainability and resource efficiency.

SIDISA 2024 covered a broad range of environmental engineering topics, from waste valorization and water treatment technologies to climate change mitigation. The symposium’s sessions allowed participants to exchange ideas, discuss cutting-edge research, and explore future opportunities for collaboration. UNIVPM’s participation in this prestigious event not only contributed to the growing conversation on sustainable waste management but also showcased the progress and potential of the SEA2LAND project.
